Blocked from Migrating Entra App from Personal to Org Tenant (Production Use, Partner Account)

We’re a Microsoft partner with a verified organizational tenant and a live Outlook connector currently in production with a sizable user base. Unfortunately, due to historical setup, the Entra authentication app supporting this connector was registered under a personal Microsoft account.

Microsoft support informed us that application migration between accounts is no longer supported, and directed us to the community for visibility and possible product escalation.

What We’re Asking For:
  • A manual reassignment or supported workaround for this authentication app to be transferred to our organizational tenant
  • Or at minimum, guidance on how to support existing users during a parallel rebuild, with minimal disruption

We understand this may be an edge case, but for partners with live customer-facing apps originally built under personal accounts, we believe there’s value in revisiting the policy — or offering a migration pathway.

If there’s a path to escalate this to the relevant Entra or Commercial Marketplace team, we would sincerely appreciate that support.

Thanks in advance.

Hi JillArmourMicrosoft, thanks so much for your response and for helping route this internally - I really appreciate it!

    To clarify our situation:

We’re a Microsoft partner with a verified organizational tenant, and we have a production Outlook connector with ~200 active users. Unfortunately, the Entra authentication app backing this connector was originally created under a personal Microsoft account (legacy setup, not intentional).

Microsoft support confirmed that app transfers between tenants are no longer supported. That leaves us unable to complete marketplace verification or manage the app appropriately under our partner tenant.

What we’re hoping for from the Commercial Marketplace or Entra teams is either:

    • A supported workaround or manual intervention that could reassign the app into our tenant
    • Or guidance on how to maintain continuity for users while we re-create the app under the right account

sansbacher thanks for your suggestion. We’ve considered rebuilding the app and migrating users, and may go that route if needed. The challenge is ensuring a smooth transition without breaking auth for existing users, so any tooling advice or transition strategies are definitely welcome.

Thanks again to both of you. Happy to provide further detail or context.

  • I am trying to find someone to pass this along to, but not sure I will be able to locate the correct team/person. Also tagging a superuser in case they have anything to comment. sansbacher do you happen to know anything around this type of thing? Thanks either way. 🌞

Unito can you clarify what you are wanting to get in touch with the commercial marketplace team about? I am still trying to find someone to help, but they need more information.

Thanks sansbacher for your response and contribution!! 🤩

Hi JillArmourMicrosoft. Just following up to see if there are any updates on this. I had posted a direct response to your question a few days ago (just above), but wanted to make sure it didn’t get missed since it wasn’t threaded directly under your comment.

Appreciate any insight you can share, and happy to provide more details if needed.

        Thanks again!

Sorry, no. If it used to be possible but no longer is: I can only suggest finding the right person in Microsoft who can bend the rules, reinstate the policy, or at least explain why it's no longer possible.  Perhaps JillArmourMicrosoft can find someone? Otherwise, as noted: having to do create a new App and transition customers over. I only deal with "internal" Customers (our CSP clients) so I don't have any suggestions unfortunately. (in my situation I'd just create a new App [with a similar but different name] and write a script leveraging the original App to deploy the new one and then use the new to remove the old. All my stuff is entirely hands-off for the client once GDAP has been granted).

Perhaps you have an account manager who can pull some strings?
