I am sorry to hear that you accidentally deleted your desktop files from OneDrive, and it affected your local desktop as well. Losing important work files can be frustrating. Let us try some steps to see if we can recover the deleted files from OneDrive and restore your local desktop.
- Check OneDrive Recycle Bin:
- Go to the OneDrive website (onedrive.live.com) and sign in with your Microsoft account.
- On the left-hand side, click on "Recycle bin."
- Look for the deleted files in the Recycle Bin and select the files you want to recover.
- Click on "Restore" to move the files back to their original location in OneDrive.
- Restore Files from OneDrive Version History:
- If the files are not in the Recycle Bin, you can try to restore them using the Version History feature in OneDrive.
- Right-click on the "Desktop" folder in OneDrive, and select "Version history."
- This will show you a list of previous versions of the files. Check if the deleted files are available in any of the previous versions and restore them.
- Recover Deleted Files on Your Computer:
- If the above steps don't help, you may try to recover the deleted files from your computer's Recycle Bin.
- Open the Recycle Bin on your computer, look for the deleted files, and if you find them, right-click and select "Restore" to put them back on your desktop.
- Check OneDrive Settings:
- It's possible that the OneDrive sync settings on your computer got changed during the deletion.
- Right-click on the OneDrive icon in the system tray (bottom right corner) and select "Settings."
- Go to the "Account" tab and make sure the location of the OneDrive folder is set correctly.
Please make sure to take appropriate precautions while trying to recover deleted files to avoid any accidental permanent data loss. If the above steps don't help, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for further assistance. They may be able to help you recover the lost files. The text and the steps are the result of various AI's put together.
