Is it possible to add MS List to a chat in MS Teams?

Some of my users has started creating private channels in their teams instead of using the chat function. They claim the only reason is because they can then add MS List based tabs to the channel. Else they could just as well be using a chat. And I see their point of view, as I cannot find how to add MS List to a chat. Is this possible at all?
