Default Teams Sharepoint Permissions
Hello.
I am getting ready to invite my first Guest to an MS Team, and I want to be slightly cautious about file access.
In a nutshell, of the 6-8 Channels that will be in my Team, I'd like to be conservative and only let guests read or access any of the FILES associated with a few of these channels.
I don't want to do a private channel because: I'd like to use apps like Planner, etc. in these channels (not allowed in Private) and it's also a pain that private channels have their own Sharepoint sites.
My first thought was to just change the default site permissions and grant Visitors no access by default. I could then explicitly grant READ or WRITE Access to the Sharepoint directory corresponding to the Channel as time goes on. If any new channels are created, the default would also be no access.
It appears that changing the default permissions for the site is not possible. These options have been disabled and I can't seem to figure out a way around this. It appears that I COULD break from default permissions for every channel that I want to restrict, but I'd rather start off restricted and move forward from there.
Does anyone have any idea whether the default permissions in Sharepoint can be altered for a Teams site? And, are there also opinions about whether this is a good idea, e.g. if I start restricting would this mean that guests couldn't read any attachments in the Posts section, etc.
Any opinions welcome ...
- Guest users added to a Team are from a practical point of view members of the Team so breaking inheritance at the folder level is not the best approach here. Might I ask if you need give access to conversations in your Team to those Guests? If not, you could give access to the external users to the site by means of the standard SharePoint Groups or custom ones you create
