Microsoft Backup
Thank you for your replies.
The SPO backup is not an issue as we have deployed a 3rd party backup solution that provides the ability to restore a single item or list/library.
However, this service can not currently be extended to cover groups. I assume if a group member empties the 'group' recycle bin, the item is not recoverable?
Maybe jcgonzalezmartin could help a bit here.
Group Files technically uses SharePoint as its document repository however most vendor tools out there, minus a few good ones, don't cover this aspect in SharePoint as it is setup differently meaning it isn't as easy as backing up SharePoint and therefore your also backing up your Group and Team Files etc.
However because it does use SharePoint as its repository then I would assume that the SLAs would be the same as SharePoint. Is this right, Juan?

Group conversations are stored as items in Exchange mailboxes. The mailboxes are protected by Native Data Protection (Exchange Database Availability Groups with 4 copies of each database) like any other Exchange Online mailbox. Unlike SharePoint, Microsoft does not take backups of Exchange Online. If someone deletes something from a group, it will be in the Deletions folder of the mailbox. You can recover the item from there by running a content search and export to PST. Or you might be able to get a copy of the item from one of the members of the group, if they receive updates by email. You cannot use the standard Recover Deleted Items functionality in Outlook or OWA to recover deleted conversations because you do not own the group mailbox.
- Jun 28, 2017Yes, with Group files you are in the same situation you have with a file in a "classic" SPO site...files are stored in the Group site so the tool you are using should work well with Groups sites and Microsoft is also doing the daily backup...the story is different if you talk about Group conversations backup even I believe some of he usual backup solutions makers are doing something around this (Check if AvePoint backup tools can do it)
