Printing in colour

Since Office updated (automatically) a couple of weeks ago, Word will not print any text in colour. It prints borders and pictures in colour so nothing wrong with the printer but the text all comes out in black. I have spent 1.5 hours with Microsoft on chat but they cannot solve it.  They say nobody else has reported this but has anyone else had this problem?

Enable colour printing in the printer properties (Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Right-click Printer > Printing Preferences > Colour) and check for ink cartridge residuals and nozzle clogging.

  • Well although Microsoft said this wasn't a known problem, when Office updated automatically again last week, would you believe it started working OK.  Not their problem though!!! Not much!!!

  • Below you can try:

    1. Manually Update Office

    • Go to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now in Word.
    • Restart Word after the update.
    1. Use Word Online

    1. Convert to Older Format

One workaround: Save the document as a Word 97-2003 (.doc) file.

    • Go to File > Save As > Word 97-2003 Document (.doc)
    • Then try printing again.
    1. Replace the Normal Template

If your default Word template is corrupted:

    • Locate and rename the file Normal.dotm (usually in %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Templates)
    • Word will recreate a fresh template when restarted.
    1. Check Printer Settings

Make sure your printer isn’t set to grayscale or black-and-white mode:

    • Go to Print > Printer Properties
    • Disable any “Print in grayscale” or “Black ink only” options.
