Intune Edu Licencing

Hi, thanks for the opportunity to ask questions.

I have an issue with licensing.

We've moved to Intune & CSP licencing this year.

Our staff have E3 licences, and our students have E4 student benefit.

I've used a policy to bring out of S mode and change the edition to Windows 10 Education.

However, most devices are now showing that windows isn't activated. Should the E3 licence activate Windows for them? If there an issue with the number of devices they can login to and activate?

Thanks,

Martin.

  • Martin Robson hey Martin! What sku were the devices shipped with? and what sku did you try to upgrade them to after you switched them out of S Mode? And what version of Windows 10 are the devices?

Liz_Cox Hi, thanks for the response.

They arrive with various. Win10 Home, Pro Edu, Pro. The recent ones are laptops shipped from the Dfe/

We haven't had any with S, but we've set it to convert just in case we do.

We've also set them to run the 2004 feature update.

They should all end up Win 10 Edu 2004, and they aren't activating.

        Hello Martin Robson,

for devices that were shipped with Windows 10 Home, you cannot deploy Windows 10 Pro Edu and expect a SKU upgrade to Windows 10 Education. For devices to upgrade to Windows 10 EDU, they must have a digital entitlement in the BIOS.

If you have devices originally shipped with Windows 10 Home, you can obtain MAK keys and activate them that way.
