Company Portal with Direct Enrollment

For macOS devices in EDU the end-users typically don't have admin privileges, which is required to install the MDM Management Profile when the user goes through the steps in the Company Portal app.

I'd like to use the new Intune Direct Enrollment feature for macOS to quickly enroll hundreds of devices in our exsitig fleet, which I can easily do by pushing out the profile with our separate software deployment tools (this avoids the problem with Company Portal where only admin users can install the management profile); however, I'd also like to later establish User Affinity on these devices.

Currently, the Company Portal app doesn't recognize that the management profile is already installed, and it still directs the users to go through the steps to download and install the profile.

Can the app have logic to check for the profile installation to skip the profile download/install part, but still allow the user to sign-in to the Company Portal to establish user affinity to the already enrolled device?
