Hi! I read this article yesterday and I was wondering if you could take a look at a very tiny program I created in Microsoft Excel. I can email you the Excel file if you are interested. T...

Hello,
I'm testing new solution:
1. Download and install Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant for Office 365 - https://aka.ms/SaRA-officeUninstallFromPC
2. Use SaRA to uninstall Office 365.
3. Use "regedit" to delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office
4. Reboot your PC and install Office 365 (I used my OfficeSetup.exe from July 2022)
5. Check for updates in Excel (File > Account > ... )

.. and back to the topic:
My Excel slowed down a while ago, I noticed a flashing black screen or black rectangles with text "calculation (...)". The problem could not be solved by changing settings in Excel or installing a new operating system. Today I noticed that accessing the network folder is slower than it should be... I did this:
1) In Hyper-V settings (I use virtual machines) I set the second network card to Hyper-V exclusive.
2) In the network settings (Windows 10) I have disabled the Hyper-V Virtual network adapter "Default Switch". All virtual machines will use second network card exclusive...
Results:
1) Access to the network folder is at full speed again.
2) Excel works noticeably faster (I use a lot of INDIRECT functions)
I hope you can find the source of your Excel problems. Good luck! - SiliconKnightDec 29, 2022Copper Contributor
thumperbunI've recently started having issues with Excel and stumbled across this thread. I will try some of the solutions that y'all have suggested, but I wanted to chime in that I see the "locking up" of the Excel App/video when switching between two spreadsheets (separate files) with formulas linking between them.
- thumperbunNov 11, 2022Copper ContributorFYI for those still following this thread, I have seen the problem return twice now. However, just closing Excel, deleting the Excel registry key again and re-launching immediately resolves the issue without a reboot. Needing to do this once a week will be annoying if it continues, but it is still much better than the performance problem itself. The return of the issue may coincide with updates that are happening but I have not been tracking that.

tomoam2 Thank you for this post. I have been having this issue since I upgraded to 4k monitors/resolution (no change in GPU).
Based on your post I started by just deleting HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Excel entirely and restarting Excel.
This fixed the issue for me, no reinstall, no reboot required. I'll be curious to see if deleting the Excel key will be required when updates are installed or if this will stay stable.
- Id_rather_rideOct 03, 2022Copper ContributorSo far ok but I haven't run it hard today. I did the full reinstall. Definitely didn't do the regedit before as I had to re link Gmail etc to outlook and I hadn't done that on the previous reinstalls.
- tomoam2Oct 03, 2022Copper ContributorMy Excel works OK for 2 days!
Sheets eats 80-115MB memory, was 250-600MB!
How is your situation? - Id_rather_rideOct 01, 2022Copper ContributorI've uninstalled and reinstalled a few times with sara. It was always better for a while afterward but the issue still came back. I think I did the regedit at some point as well but I'm not 100% on that. I was about to do this again so I'll make sure to add the regedit step and see how it goes.
