Linking Slicers to multiple Pivot Tables with External Data Sources

Question

I have externalised my data source to improve performance and I have several pivot tables that link to the external excel spreadsheet. I would like a slicer to link multiple pivot tables but when I use the Report Connections tool the other pivot tables do not appear, even through they have the same filters. How can I link the Pivot Tables to the Slicer?
