Sign in with a Google account - Discussion

Hey, everyone! Thanks so much for this discussion, we've learned a lot from your comments. We'd like to first make it clear that we do not plan to integrate Google services into Microsoft Edge by default. We are considering including an opt-in experience for users to attach their Google account to Microsoft Edge but are not ready to make a decision on it just yet.
I'd like to take this time to reiterate what Elliot posted back in November: One option available to you today to use a single user identifier across the various services you use is to create a new Microsoft Account using a @gmail address.
As you know, you can currently import your data from Chrome by going to edge://settings/importData. You can also sign into Google websites and remember your password in Microsoft Edge to reduce the number of times you need to sign in. Accessing your Microsoft Edge data on-the-go is easily done by signing into Microsoft Edge with a Microsoft account and syncing with Microsoft Edge across other devices and mobile.
As always, we will update here once we have more information. Please continue to provide your feedback and suggestions around this feature; the team will continue to review feedback even if we have moved something to Not Planned.
While I get everyone's concern with Google and their data, simply removing the option altogether is really not a solution. Just because of the few that do not want to use Google, that should not mean that everyone else should be barred from it.
I have installed Edge Chromium on my laptop, which I use at work, and taken it for a test drive all day.
At work all our accounts a GSuite accounts, that means I have to use Google, and that also means I do not have an option of just using something else and not syncing the account. While Edge was fine for general browsing, I can't make the switch unless it allows me to have freedom with what I want to use or sync.
Similarly at home I have multiple google devices and services, which means I would, again, be barred from them. Now this might sound all fine, but it really isn't because the amount of time and effort it would take me to transfer my entire ecosystem from Google to Microsoft is both impractical and unwanted. For this to be a browser that allows a full switch it needs to play nice with the rest, because who wants to use a browser for this and a browser for that? It just becomes a hassle and people jump ship back to Google Chrome.
So while I understand that some people might not want to use Google, I strongly disagree it should be totally removed. Keyword is Option.
If someone doesn't want to log-in with a Google account can don't do it, it is not mandatory!
- gocloudJan 16, 2020Brass ContributorYou can just install Edge for Android, or use Chrome at everywhere. You can also tell Google to add "Sync with Microsoft account or you will uninstall it"

You don't get it... If they allow signing in with a Google account that means they will have to add google coding into the browser, and being that it is "GOOGLE" you don't have to sign in with your google account for them to data mine the heck out of you, they will have access to "EVERYONE's" browsing habits. And if you think they will not be watching everyone, then please enjoy your dream.....

- Graham-STMCJan 25, 2020Steel ContributorWhy are you not using Edge on your Android phone and syncing with Classic Edge or Chromium Edge already? No need for Google Chrome on Android now - disable it! (Don't disable the 'Google' App but disable Chrome.)*
*Unless you still use Google Maps - but you don't need that either! Search for 'beonroad' and download and install 'Offline Maps & Navigation' and download the maps you use regularly so you no longer need to use mobile data.
Alternatively I wish we could have Microsoft Maps on Android!- Manu99Jan 25, 2020Copper Contributor
Graham-STMC Lol, because I prefer much much more the Google services and environment on mobile. I always tried to mix up the environments, and the only limit is just the browser. And I already said that I don't like the edge mobile for many reasons. So actually I'll stick on chrome on mobile, unless edge will be good in future.

when i compare it to Yandex map or Google maps, they are far more updated.
