Canary and now Dev are unusable
As of Mondays update for Canary and today's update for Canary it is no longer usable as it keeps crashing to desktop and now after todays update for Dev it is doing the same. I am writing this from ...
- Nov 11, 2021Oh, also passing on a workaround that may help in the interim! You may have Accessibility Features enabled unexpectedly; turning off the Windows 10 "Text cursor indicator" might get you back up and running as expected, for example. Eric Lawrence (a Principal on the Edge team who wrote this blog) suggested it might help short term if you'd like to take a look and try the workarounds. https://textslashplain.com/2021/10/12/accessibility-uia-troubleshooting/

Ok, Todays Canary update Version 98.0.1074.0 (Official build) canary (64-bit), has fixed the crashing issue while "Text cursor indicator" is turned on. Canary for me, is no longer crashing.
But, it is still not loading the correct startup pages. It still loads the new tab page. Also, have another issue that I keep forgetting to add, you can no longer middle click links and have them open in a new tab. if you want a link to open in a new tab you now have to right click it and select open in new tab from the popup menu...... Have sent in new feedback "Canary not loading startup pages." with all the Diag info attatched...

Thanks Dennis! Got the feedback, will follow it up with the team and let you know when I know more ๐
- Dennis5mileNov 17, 2021Silver ContributorHey Alexandra, no need to pursue this any further. As of today's Canary update, Version 98.0.1079.0 (Official build) canary (64-bit), middle clicking is once again opening links in a new tab like it did before. Everything is working perfectly once again...
Thanks for your very, very appreciated attention to this matter! ( อกยฐ อส อกยฐ)
Dennis5mile - Alexandra-RDec 03, 2021MicrosoftHey Dennis! I was actually just looking at an email thread about this. The team currently suspects something is causing the preferences to get into a bad state but they aren't entirely sure what is causing this yet. They attempted to solve this with a change to how we read startup info (which is what fixed this previously in this thread) but it looks like that's actually a temporary fix. Do you mind submitting feedback again and letting me know what you put in the description so I can add that to their investigation? Thanks again, and sorry this didn't turn out to be fully fixed.
- Dennis5mileDec 08, 2021Silver ContributorHey Alexandra, Well, I was all set to run this trace, but first I decided to see if today's update had come out and it has, so I updated first and then restarted Edge Canary. It seemed to be fixed, so I closed it and restarted it a few more times to see and then I rebooted my system and restarted Edge Canary again and as of Version 98.0.1098.0 (Official build) canary (64-bit) it is fixed! Yeah!!!
Thanks for all you do!! If there is something else you want to me send you please let me know.
Warm regards
Dennis5mile - Alexandra-RDec 08, 2021MicrosoftHey, that's great! You were part of the 'easy to fix' case then =P
Very glad you're back up and running! Thank you for continuing to report things as you see them, it really helps! - Alexandra-RDec 15, 2021MicrosoftHey Dennis! Canary on Windows and Mac should be on 1100 as there's a Canary blocking bug the team is working on. Android and iOS didn't have the issue so those have continued updating. Also, the team cherrypicked some changes to startup behavior so folks should be seeing that resolve soon as well. If it's not too much trouble, can you start new threads for new issues? Helps me keep follow ups straight and makes things a bit more searchable for other folks coming in with the same problems.
- Dennis5mileNov 13, 2021Silver ContributorHi, not sure what happened between last night and shutting Canary down and this morning starting Canary back up, but it is now loading the correct startup pages. I've tested it several times this morning and it continues to load the correct startup pages, so I'd say it is fixed.
This just leaves the middle mouse button click which has always opened links in a new tab, but is no longer doing so......
Thanks
Dennis5mile - Dennis5mileNov 16, 2021Silver ContributorMiddle clicking mouse still not opening new tabs after todays Canary update Version 98.0.1078.0 (Official build) canary (64-bit).
Dennis5mile - Alexandra-RNov 17, 2021MicrosoftHey Dennis, do you mind creating a new thread for the middle click issue (and also dropping a snippet from your feedback specifically for that in the thread)? Partly for bookkeeping on my end, but partly because there've been several fixes in Canary since the last feedback of yours I grabbed! Oh, can you also try it in an InPrivate window to rule out extensions? Thanks!
- Dennis5mileDec 03, 2021Silver ContributorHey there, sigh, sad news, Canary is once again no longer loading startup pages, since update, "Version 98.0.1090.0 (Official build) canary (64-bit)" I kept hoping it would fix itself, but has not as of todays update, Version 98.0.1093.0 (Official build) canary (64-bit). Everything else is working fine....
Dennis5mile - Dennis5mileDec 04, 2021Silver ContributorHey Alexandra! Ok, submitted new feedback with first subject line of "None loading startup pages...." Have included a screenshot of my settings/startHomeNTP. Hope this helps...
