We're Listening!
Greetings Microsoft Edge Insiders!
Let us start off by saying, welcome to the Microsoft Edge Insider community! We’re so excited to have you here, and we can’t wait to start learning from you. If you haven’t read our Welcome to the Microsoft Edge Insider community article yet, we recommend starting there. It has a bunch of great information on how we got here and where we’re heading.
Our mission:
Our mission is to create a thriving community of valuable Insiders, like you, so we can closely listen and learn how Microsoft Edge can be better. We believe that having open, honest, and continued conversations with our Insider community is a great way to build a close relationship with our users.
Why do all of this? Because we want to build a browser that’s deeply grounded in your needs. Your voice is the most important piece of helping us build a better Microsoft Edge. The feedback you provide leads to meaningful conversations that may ultimately produce the new features, bug fixes, and other improvements that matter the most to you. Listening is just the beginning for us. Our true goal is to build Microsoft Edge with the voice of the Insider community as our guiding light.
Community voice
When we announced the next version of Microsoft Edge back in December, we asked a simple question: If you could change one thing about the web, what would it be?
We were completely humbled by the over 40k comments you’ve shared with us. That’s a whole lot of ideas. Thank you!
You tell us that you love some things about the current Microsoft Edge browser, like the smooth scrolling experience, our Fluent Design and the precision touchpad, and you hope we’ll bring those things forward into the next version too.
Some of you are frustrated with the way that sites render so differently depending on the browser you're using to view them. You also tell us that Web Standards are on the top of your mind. We hear that you want all browsers to adopt the same standards. We hear from some of you web developers that you want new capabilities added to the web platform; whether that be in CSS, HTML or JavaScript. Another top request is an improved dev tools experience.
We hear that you have strong feelings about online advertising. Some of you wish ads that pop-up would just disappear and the same for auto-playing ads. While others feel a strong desire to remove or fundamentally change how online advertising works on the web. There is concern how these advertisements enable sites to track you as you browse which feels "creepy" and "invasive."
The overwhelming majority of comments (we’re talking thousands of messages) that we have read wish for a change in the fundamental attributes of the web. Make it faster, safer, more reliable and more private. You want your browsers to have smaller memory footprints, lower battery consumption, higher rendering speed and better stability. We agree with you wholeheartedly! The attributes that you say matter most in your browsing experience are performance, privacy, and reliability. So that is where we are starting.
We are focusing on delivering outstanding fundamentals. Speed, stability, accessibility, compatibility, security, and privacy are always top of mind for us. We are using your comments and suggestions to guide us while we are getting the new Microsoft Edge ready for its debut.
What’s next?
In the meantime, jump in, download the Microsoft Edge Insider Channels, and let us know what you think. What’s working well? Where do we need to improve? Over time, we hope to build healthy engagement and feedback loops with our community members.
We’re also mindful that our users have preferred ways to engage with us. Whether you view the latest information on the Microsoft Edge Insider website, enjoy direct discussions on our forum, need a personal support assistant via help (F1), share your feedback and suggestions via the smiley face, or just want to give us a shout on Twitter, we’re always listening and looking for ways to reach out wherever our users feel most comfortable and prefer to talk to us. We’re all ears!
Thank you for being here. We look forward to listening and engaging with you.

I wanted to congratulate the team that is working on Edge Chromium.
A few days ago I wanted to try something with the data I have in folder User Data (Local, Microsoft, Edge Beta).
First I had Canary installed. When Beta came I installed it and try to use that information in the beta and didn't work, most of all with the information I had in another profile. I uninstalled Canary including editing regedit.
So, some days ago, I installed Canary again and used the data contained in User Data from Beta.
Until now Canary is working fine and recognized everything including profiles, passwords, bookmarks, extensions, etc ...
So, congrats!
- Hi,
That's great you're enjoying the new Edge insider, I have the same feeling about it ^^
Though why did you need to modify Windows registry for uninstalling Edge insider canary?- josegime47Brass ContributorI've have the good?/bad? habit of deleting the things that appear
in regedit, current user and local machine, software relating to what I have uninstalled. Somebody told me years ago that this was a good idea for not having there things that I don't use.
Thanks.

Elliot Kirk It would be nice If I could change the search engine used for the search bar in the new tab page, I accomplished this in the inspect feature temporarily but it would be a nice built in feature.
- Yeah for sure, specially now that Google chrome allows it.

I see that we're approaching the release of edge chromium stable.
For those of us that are in the beta channel (or canary for that matter) what should we expect?. Meaning, I understand that the stable version will install and replace edge in windows 10. Also, for myself, I didn't use edge or explorer, my default was Firefox. So I have everything (bookmarks, passwords, etc), first on canary and now on beta.
Also, we can uninstall beta version after the release of stable?.
Where can we save all the data so that we don't lose it: bookmarks, passwords, etc... and those of us that have two or more profiles.
I am at your service in case you need clarification.
Thanks.- Drew1903Silver Contributor

Elliot may well have something else to say, but,...
That is news that we are close to "Stable". Personally, don't think that is the case. Many of us reckon Spring 2020 is likely for a non-beta version, a non-Insider Build.
Once Edge c replaces Edge, yes, the beta Channels can be removed. And, once then signed in to (new) Edge (& importing stuff if necessary) all that is YOU will be there. And that will hold true for each of YOUR Profiles.
Everything that is YOU should either be there or transition quite seamlessly once we are done with these beta Channels/preview Builds.
Cheers,

I said that because: https://news.softpedia.com/news/microsoft-edge-stable-chromium-now-available-for-download-527924.shtml

Thanks.Hi there,
- Yes, you can uninstall Beta whenever you want, now, later, after the stable version is released, anytime; because the new Edge browser comes in 4 different channels (Stable/Beta/Dev/Canary) and you can install all of them on one computer without any of them having conflicts with each other, they are separate programs.
- you won't be able to uninstall the stable version of Edge browser (based on Chromium) when it will be released and integrated into the Windows 10, because it will be an embedded program and will replace the current Edge classic.
You can Read all the information you need in this official article from Microsoft:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/DeployEdge/microsoft-edge-sysupdate-windows-updates
- we are still so far from the stable version of Edge insider. there are fundamental features still missing and Sync options such as History and Extension are not implemented, open tabs syncing is still in controlled feature roll out.
- right now, you can export your bookmarks from Firefox to a HTML file and then import them into the Edge insider browser (Beta/Dev/Canary) using the option at the bottom of this page: edge://favorites/
- but for Importing passwords, address, saved forms etc, better wait until the Final version of Edge insider browser is released so that Mozilla will Officially add support for import/export of the new Edge browser to their Firefox browser and you will be able to do a proper Import.

When I say that we're near stable is because of this:
"But as discovered by TechDows, a search for “Microsoft Edge stable” on Google actually points users to the official download link for the stable version of Microsoft Edge stored on Microsoft’s servers. This version isn’t yet listed on the Microsoft Edge Insider page" (https://win.softpedia.com) and I have seen that some people have installed it, not me because I'm waiting for an official release.
Perhaps I didn't explain better.
Firefox does not have profiles (I know that you can have instances or profiles with firefox.exe -p) but I don't have them). IE and Edge, also, don't have profiles.
Edge chromium have them so I have two. One for everything and another exlcusive for emails, FB and other personal stuff.
I have read the link but my worries are for what will happen when the stable version becomes available. Will it recognize my two profiles now on beta?.
I also know that I can start from scratch but I'm trying to know if there is a way to avoid that. For example I have on users/mypc/appdata/local/microsoft/edge beta a folder user data where, I suppose, is all my data. Can I copy that to users/mypc/appdata/local/microsoft/edge and being recognized by the new edge?.
Thanks.

Hi everyone working on Edge, what's the status on robust pen support?
It seems all browsers based on Chromium have terrible pen support with a few having been patched up to be slightly better than Google's offering. I can't even use my Surface Pen at all really with Google Chrome.
Vivaldi has some pen support, but very often pushing the back/forward buttons with the pen does nothing.
Only legacy Edge and Firefox have proper pen support, legacy Edge being the best.
I've got a Surface Book 2 and use the pen a lot and I assume there are thousands if not millions of others out there utterly disappointed with the very poor state of Chromium with pens/touch. Quite shocking really that in this touch/pen-enabled tech world we are in the #1 browser, as per install base, has been left in this state. Hopefully, MS can help sort Google out.
Thanks for listening everyone.

Elliot Kirk I'm interested to develop 3rd party extension store for edge, any guidelines/document on how to do it? any requirement to fulfill before i can propose something like this? whom should i ask or email about this matter?

HI there. I use a surface pro 4 and a surface go as my primary windows machines. The chromium edge experience on my surface pro 4 is pretty good but it is choppy on my surface go. Much slower to use than the old edge browser which not only scrolls more smoothly but also loads pages and content faster. I think for the chromium version to be ready for full rollout it needs to perform at least as well as legacy edge does on lower powered devices like the surface go. For these reasons I have switched back to legacy edge on my surface go and will only check the chromium beta periodically to see if it has gotten better. Elliot Kirk

Thecompletejake Yes, that's one of the things that i have noticed with the chromium edge, the scrolling feels slow and i feel like i have to scroll(at least with my finger) farther. I thought that Microsoft implemented the scrolling from the old edge into chromium, but either they didn't or its being compromised. I do have smooth scrolling on, just in case some people think that may be whats causing it.

Hi,
for the Smooth scrolling issue, you can active this flag called Smooth Scrolling
from here: edge://flags/
Also for improvements, Edge insider Dev and Canary always receive these updates faster so chances are you will get a better experience from them than Beta.
Beta is only updated every 1.5 Month.

Hey.
I'm seeing some stranger behavior with how the favorites is working.
When I click on the favorites button and hover over a folder, the window for the folder opens to the left of the favorites menu (as expected).
If I were to hover over another folder within the folder that just popped up it sometimes opens to the left again (as expected) and sometimes opens to the right, covering the Main Favorites display.
Expected : [Folder 2 window] < [Folder 1 window] < [Main Favorites display]
50% of the time : [Folder 1 window] < [Folder 2 window covering Main Favorites display]
I'm probably explaining this horribly. My question is this a bug or intended? There's room for 5 windows to the left of the Favorites pull down menu so I'm not sure why it sometimes decides to open right covering the main favorites display.

Hi, you explained it perfectly, I just tried it too, a nested folder in favorites.
for me it opens on the right. I don't think it's a bug but a preference.
I wouldn't worry about it covering the favorites button because that's not necessary. when you are in the favorites list and going to a folder and another folder inside that folder, then you must be looking for a specific bookmark to click on, and after you click the tab just opens and you won't need to click on the favorites button on toolbar again.

What is the expected release of the final version? already have a date? I would like to suggest that the development team focus first on adapting the functions it has in the old version and launching the browser, and then worrying about the news, the new engine works fine from what I could see, just missing the removed functions to have a higher edge than the previous one. I am keen on edge canary translation this good needs tweaking but is far superior to BING extensionElliot Kirk

Hi, no confirmed date now,
As you said there are a bunch of fundamental features either missing or are incomplete (like set tabs aside, collections, sync options etc..)
history shows that enabling sync options requires lots of Trial & Errors and it's the most time consuming feature I think. since Edge launched 6-7 months ago or more, among the sync options, only 4 of them are working stable now. out of those 4, 1 of them was enabled by default (favorites) at very early stage, Settings sync is nothing really, just syncs the new tab page changes and no browser settings which is what it is supposed to do.
so that means, the next big update that came to browser sync was couple months ago and it covered passwords and address sync (2 options), 3 months after that they are testing controlled roll out of open tabs on Canary. give it 2 more month to solidify it, after that few more month to implement extension and history sync and solidify it on Canary channel, then it takes 6 weeks to ship it to Beta channel, spend 1 month or 2 on Beta channel alone to eliminate any possible bug and incompatibility and then maybe it will be ready for final release.
this was all Only about the sync options! the other fundamental features have a different story of their own. i just hope they don't rush it and take their time with this.

Hi Vini,There is not a date being suggested or advertised in any official way or from any official source, yet. However, that said, many of us reckon Spring 2020 is possible or likely, along with the Spring 2020 Update for Windows 10.
Hey, you can be the newest new member of the ever-growing "Keep Edge Features Club". There are a lot of us! Be sure to tell Mr. Smiley
you, also, don't want Edge Features omitted, forgotten or neglected.
Oh, Elliot, here's another person pleading for the same as countless others.
Cheers,
Drew- viniciusbezerraIron ContributorHi
It will take so long, I'm really enjoying the Edge Beta but the missing features are missing, what remains is to wait, anyway the Edge is very promising, I'm looking forward to the final version.

Elliot Kirk Would love to have web page annotation added to DEV EDGE....
- Web page Inking + PDF Inking is a must have. the latter is confirmed and released as a controlled feature roll out to some Canary users.

Lisa,
Allegedly this, Add notes, is coming. It is a big-deal Edge Feature to & for MANY people. Not to mention, bit silly having Share & not Add notes, considering Add notes, actually, gives people the material they want to share
. Believe me the Team has been reminded of this a few times & they won't be the last times, to be sure. It's such an important Feature to SO many End Users!
Cheers,
Drew
