CMG troubleshooting resources
Hi, After our classes went all virtual in the spring, I tried to stand up a CMG to make our ConfigMgr CB environment more usable to fac/staff machines that were suddenly 100% off campus. It's kinda working in that clients that've been on campus/on VPN know about it and can report in to it, but the ability for it to receive/pass along content from the inside back out (like WSUS approved patch lists, packages/applications that have been distributed to the CMG's DP) is not working. Unfortunately management gave up our Microsoft support contract a few years back, and given covid I'm not sure if we've got the budget to hire a consultant (if I knew how to pick one) which was supposed to be the fallback plan when they took away the support contract. Can you recommend any resources/sites that I can use for further troubleshooting on my own? Thanks, Anne
AMA: Age restrictions in Store
Hi guys, Another question we are frequently asked: is there any way to use Endpoint Manager to restrict students to age-appropriate apps from the Store? I haven't been able to get an answer on this and yet it seems like such a basic concern for managing devices in Edu. Thanks!
Intune Edu Licencing
Hi, thanks for the opportunity to ask questions. I have an issue with licensing. We've moved to Intune & CSP licencing this year. Our staff have E3 licences, and our students have E4 student benefit. I've used a policy to bring out of S mode and change the edition to Windows 10 Education. However, most devices are now showing that windows isn't activated. Should the E3 licence activate Windows for them? If there an issue with the number of devices they can login to and activate? Thanks, Martin.AMA: Custom device compliance policies?
Hi guys, Was watching the new feature announcements at Ignite with interest and we’ve already been using the proactive remediations component of endpoint analytics to great effect so thanks for that! I recall seeing a demo of similar provision for powershell-based custom compliance policies but haven’t seen any sign of that appearing yet. Is that still on the radar? Thanks again!
Company Portal with Direct Enrollment
For macOS devices in EDU the end-users typically don't have admin privileges, which is required to install the MDM Management Profile when the user goes through the steps in the Company Portal app. I'd like to use the new Intune Direct Enrollment feature for macOS to quickly enroll hundreds of devices in our exsitig fleet, which I can easily do by pushing out the profile with our separate software deployment tools (this avoids the problem with Company Portal where only admin users can install the management profile); however, I'd also like to later establish User Affinity on these devices. Currently, the Company Portal app doesn't recognize that the management profile is already installed, and it still directs the users to go through the steps to download and install the profile. Can the app have logic to check for the profile installation to skip the profile download/install part, but still allow the user to sign-in to the Company Portal to establish user affinity to the already enrolled device?Welcome to the Managing devices in education AMA - November 10, 2020
