OneDrive and Windows File Explorer
Have a OneDrive structure with several levels of folders. There are several differant company names with the same file structure under each of them. I am sharing just certain folders with an individual but in File Explorer you cant see the names of the folders above the shared folder. On a MAC it shows the file structure from TOP to were the shared file is . Any suggestions? I am working for the MSP Lucrasoft, we use an RMM to automate powershell scripts to workdevices to monitor them. We get a lot of "OneDrive for Business, error with syncing" alerts. What I always see is that if OneDrive is restarted (manually) the sync is done again and the error is solved. Do people have a powershell script to "re sync", a script that we can initialize when an alert like this is coming up. So we don't have to manually restart or reïnstall onedrive to solve it16Views0likes0CommentsMultiple synchronizaton issues
Hi, Synchronization issues across multiple computers. I am updating spreadsheets and PDF's on one computer, and then try to pick it up on another computer and it is not downloading the most recent copy from the server. I will double-click the file that is supposedly up to date, and then it downloads/opens a version that is several days old. Then I try to update again accordingly and then save and then it says "MERGE CONFLICT BLAH BLAH BLAH" I try downloading a copy from the server to my downloads folder (by logging into OneDrive via web browser), replace it with the existing old file locally and then open it again and try to save and then says "UPLOAD BLOCKED" blah blah blah. It seems I am in a no-win situation here. I have tried un-linking the machine and then re-downloading all the files but it just does not fetch the most recent version of whatever few recent files I worked on. I am running into a synchronization nightmare, please advise. What changed in the last month or so when all these problems are coming up for me? Never had this nonsense before. To preface this post, please view the below link. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/1257868/microsoft-onedrive-drive-size-is-different-in-driv When retrieving the total size of a drive via the /drives endpoint - one gets a response as follows. { "deleted": 3143, "remaining": 212025579370, "state": "normal", "total": 1099511627776, "used": 887486045263 } When retrieving the same drive via its /drives/{id}/root endpoint - it returns the following metric. "size": 75217259136 The 'used' metric matches the Microsoft Admin Center OneDrive usage panel. The 'size' metric matches the actual downloaded size of the drive. What is the cause for a discrepancy of 800 GB? A response to the other post details, "The difference between the two values is the additional space used by the system." Could I have some specifics of where I could acquire this system data (or at the very least view some metadata for it)? Thanks!14Views0likes0CommentsOneDrive repeatedly misguiding users
Hi, Just letting you guys know that you are pushing the OneDrive agenda way too much and you are repeatedly misguiding and misrepresenting users on how and where they should store their files, without acquiring proper permission, without disclosing proper procedures, and without informing users on the consequences of their decisions. It's not your place to dictate to users how they should store their files and where to store them and organize them. Additionally, I have brought this up to support in the past: Windows Updates get installed and before I can even login, I get these blue screen prompts to go back to using Edge, as well as to use OneDrive, and to "Backup with OneDrive." The users are essentially being pushed or tricked into agreeing with whatever you want them to do and this is completely wrong. Where do these backups go? What are the folder structures? What "apps" get backed up? How do you offer Restoration in the event of a failure? What is the proper procedure to recover lost files? Do you have File/Version History? Who said it's correct, for example, to synchronize the Windows Desktop among computers? Who is issuing all these incorrect procedures on file management, backup, and synchronization?14Views0likes0CommentsIssue with accessing personal vault on OneDrive app post restart
When I opened my onedrive mobile app today the app pushed a message saying that a restart was required. I restarted the app and it told me to set up my personal vault. I've been using my personal vault for several years now so no set up was required. When I logged into my personal vault, all of the files within it were missing. They're available on the online version of onedrive but not in the app version. There's nothing in the recycling bin and there's no recent activity to suggest mass movement/deletion of files. I've restarted the app multiple times, tried with and without wifi, and have tried on different devices - all are showing an empty vault. Has anyone had this problem? Is this a syncing issue or a bug with the new app?78Views2likes2CommentsOneDrive Q regarding file access from 2 systems
Scenario: Within the root of one drive I have a directory named RESOURCE_FILES. Within that I have a txt file named MyFile.txt . SCENARIO1: I am at my laptop (named MyLP01) connected to one drive and using a text editor app (note NotePad) I open MyFile.txt that is in OneDrive. If I move to my workstation (MyPC01) and open MyFile.txt using a text editor (not NotePad) I can have teh file open on both systems. If a change is made to MyFile.txt on either PC, the other will get a notice that the file has changed and tge text editor app asks me if I want to reload the updated file. This is expected behavior. SCENARIO2: I am at my laptop (named MyLP01) connected to one drive and using a text editor app (note NotePad) I open MyFile.txt that is in OneDrive. Without closing the file or altering it, I activate teh VPN to my office and then I launch RDP (Remote Desktop) and connect my pc at work (MyWORKPC01). I then launch a text editor app (not NotePad) and open MyFile.txt located in OneDrive. When I try to open teh file after about 15-20 seconds I get an error msg that there is a problem accessing teh file. Why in scenario 1 can I have 1 file in OneDrive open from 2 different systems but I can't in scenario#2? Thanks6Views0likes0CommentsLost all Onedrive files
I manage my Onedrive files primarily on my desktop and when I went into my computer today I couldn’t access any file because they all had the red X sync error. Then I went into the web to access them and they were all gone. I checked the recycle bin and restore and nothing was there. Any idea what happened and how I can get my files back? I have multiple accounts (two for work and one personal) and this was my personal account. My work is doing updates on my work laptop this week and my concern is somehow they deleted all my personal files.39Views0likes1CommentOneDrive Context Menu Missing on Windows 11
OneDrive Context menu missing Hi guys, I’m having some issues regarding OneDrive and it’s Context Menu not being present on files. Environment: Windows 11 23H2, Intune managed OneDrive Build: 25.005.0112.30003 (64-bit) Affected users: all I tried all the fixes I could find on the Internet, but none have helped. Devices don’t have issues with synchronization, they only have an issue with the Context Menu missing. I can only see Always Keep on this Device and Free Up Space. Even if I press Show More Options, only the same only two previously mentioned appear. Is there anything else which I could have missed? Intune policies – no one seems to control such a thing, the context menu. Is there really not a known fix for this issue? 1. I’ve went and added it manually, for both current user and all users, nothing has changed. 3. Currently, I have a Dropbox shared folder connected with AWS processing pipeline via webhooks. In this setup, every time a user authenticated by Dropbox makes a change in the Dropbox folder, an AWS Lambda is triggered to download the changed file to AWS infrastructure and do some computations there. Now, our partner requested Dropbox to be replaced with OneDrive, but to keep the existing AWS pipeline for processing. Thus, a question arises: what would be sufficient to connect existing AWS infrastructure with OneDrive shared folder (after every change to a file in OneDrive the file has to be sent to AWS)? What should I recommend to our partner for this use case? Especially: - should I recommend the "OneDrive for business" license? - is a stand-alone OneDrive license enough to utilize webhooks or are additional solutions like Azure needed? Please note that the relationship with the partner is a formal one, so I can't change my recommendation. Also, for unrelated reasons I am unable to set up my own account, prototype and check for myself, as I normally would. In the future I will be able to make additional recommendations when specification changes, so there isn't any problem with changing the license to a higher one later on. Research I've done so far: - I've read the [OneDrive API documentation on webhooks](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/onedrive/developer/rest-api/concepts/using-webhooks), but it is unclear to me what pre-requisites I need to set this up. Especially, is it supported on every license? - The onedrive-webhooks-aspnet repo on GitHub lists prerequisites, but since the README.md was updated 6 years ago, I am unsure how up-to-date it is. It advises to use OneDrive Personal registered with the Microsoft registration portal or OneDrive for Business with Microsoft Azure Active Directory and Office 365 app registration tool. The links do not work, though. - There is also a fairly recent guide on rollout.com on implementing webhooks in OneDrive, but it relies on Microsoft Graph. Is Microsoft Graph a necessity? Any additional links to resources on how to set this up are welcomed :)15Views0likes0CommentsOneDrive affects Internet connection speed - everything is synced
Hi, on one computer in my household, OneDrive causes extreme internet connection slowness. The computer is running Windows 10, everything up to date. OneDrive says in the system tray that the sync is up to date and nothing is currently syncing. It is not causing any visible traffic in Task Manager. With OneDrive running and active, Speedtest.net reports a download speed of less than 5 Mbps, and surfing the internet becomes near impossible. When I pause OneDrive sync, Speedtest.net reports a download speed of over 100 Mbps. Turn OneDrive sync on again and the connection speed goes back to a crawl. It's repeatable and consistent. OneDrive sync is up to date, so it's not actually moving any data when the connection speed is slow. It appears to slow down the Mbps throughput for the whole internet connection for some reason. Any ideas what to do about that, other than constantly pausing OneDrive sync, so the internet is usable again? This is OneDrive Personal, as part of a M365 Family subscription.64Views0likes1CommentStop OneDrive backing up photos
Hi, I have both a private and a business MS OneDrive account. I use a work PC and an Android phone (Samsung). My problem concern my private account. No matter what I do, OneDrive insists on backing up my private photos. I've tried MS online guides, but turning off the "backup photos and videos" doesn't work and my storage is constantly over the limit! Hi everyone, We've encountered a strange issue with our backup tool that affects random users. Files with names starting with "Windows" (e.g., Windows.gif) fail to upload to OneDrive Personal accounts, regardless of whether we're using: Simple Item Upload (PUT request) Resumable Item Upload (POST to create an upload session) Both methods return a 404 Not Found error. Details: Simple Upload Fails after the PUT completes. Resumable Upload Fails during the session creation call. No issues with filenames not starting with "Windows." A similar unresolved issue was reported here. Sample Request & Response: Simple Upload: PUT /v1.0/drive/items/{item-id}:/Windows.gif:/content Authorization: Bearer [token] Host: api.onedrive.com Response: HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found Payload: json { "error": { "code": "itemNotFound", "message": "Item does not exist" } } Resumable Upload: bash POST /v1.0/drive/items/{item-id}:/Windows.gif:/upload.createSession Authorization: Bearer [token] Content-Type: application/json Response: HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found Payload: json { "error": { "code": "itemNotFound", "message": "Item does not exist" } } Key Observations: Random Accounts Affected: Issue occurs inconsistently across different OneDrive Personal accounts. No Request ID: Failed responses lack request IDs, making tracing difficult. Inconsistent Reproduction: I can't reproduce it on my account, but my colleague can. Uploading the same file via the OneDrive web interface works fine. Trying to force URL-encode the filename in the request results in the same error Questions: Has anyone encountered this before? Could this be related to reserved keywords or API filtering rules? Any advice on debugging this further, given the lack of request IDs? Thanks.26Views0likes0CommentsLatest Onedrive IOS update removed direct video record - pls restore!

I'm having trouble signing in to my OneDrive on my Wife's phone (we have 365 - she is included). When I go through the sign-in process it gives me a number to select in the "Microsoft App". I don't know what that is ! So I opted for an email instead, which I received. That contained a link to the password reset dialog. I don't want to do that. How can I actually sign in the OneDrive ? My team is relatively new to using one drive. We are looking to migrate our files over to OneDrive to be able to collaboratively work on files however we cant seem to share one drive files directly from an outlook email e.g. via attach file. For addiitonal context our files are housed in an ms teams 'Files' section which I have then synced to my computer so these can be accessed through file explorer. However when I try to attach a file from an outlook email and choose a file in one of these synced folders it just downloads and attaches as a local file. I am aware you can use the 'browse web locations' under the attach files drop down however I then have to manually navigate through all the subfolders until I get to the target documents' location. Ideally I want to be able to pin onedrive folders to my quick access that I can use to reach the onedrive files and not download them as local files to attach. Any tips on sharing OneDrive files directly from outlook would be great.Solved89Views0likes2Comments
