Windows 10, version 22H2 is now available through Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) and Windows Update for Business, and can be downloaded today from Visual Studio Subscriptions, the Software Download Center (via Update Assistant or the Media Creation Tool), and the Volume Licensing Service Center[i]. Today also marks the start of the 30-month servicing timeline for this General Availability Channel release.

Windows 10, version 22H2 (also referred to as the Windows 10 2022 Update) is a scoped release focused on quality improvements to the overall Windows experience in existing feature areas such as quality, productivity, and security. For devices running Windows 10, versions 20H2, 21H1, or 21H2, you can take advantage of an enablement package for a fast, easy installation experience.

Editor’s note: Oct. 18, 2022 – The paragraph above about the scope of the update was changed following initial publication.

Which tools are being updated for Windows 10, version 22H2?

To support the release of Windows 10, version 22H2, we have released updated versions of the following tools:

Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT) for Windows 10 are included in the OS as a set of "Features on Demand."

What about other tools?

As Windows 10, version 22H2 shares a common core and an identical set of system files with versions 20H2, 21H1, and 21H2, the following tools do not need to be updated to work with version 22H2:

Updated information experiences

With general availability of Windows 10, version 22H2, we are updating the key resources you rely on to effectively manage and deploy updates in your organization. These include:

The Windows release health experience in the Microsoft 365 admin center has also updated to include Windows 10, version 22H2.
  • Windows 10 release information – A list of current Windows 10 versions by servicing option along with release dates, build numbers, end of service dates, and release history.

A new update history page for Windows 10, version 22H2 listing all updates (monthly and out-of-band) released for version 22H2 will be published with the first servicing release.

What's new in 22H2 against 21H2? Is somewhere a changelog or something?

  • There are four new group policies in Windows 10 22H2:

22H2 inetres.admx Disable HTML Application Machine Windows Components\Internet Explorer
22H2 inetres.admx Disable HTML Application User Windows Components\Internet Explorer
22H2 printing.admx Configure Redirection Guard Machine Printers
22H2 terminalserver.admx Do not allow WebAuthn redirection Machine Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Device and Resource Redirection
22H2 windowsdefender.admx Control whether or not exclusions are visible to Local Admins. Machine Windows Components\Microsoft Defender Antivirus

    1. This policy setting specifies if running the HTML Application (HTA file) is blocked or allowed. If you enable this policy setting, running the HTML Application (HTA file) will be blocked. If you disable or do not configure this policy setting, running the HTML Application (HTA file) is allowed.

    2. This policy setting specifies if running the HTML Application (HTA file) is blocked or allowed. If you enable this policy setting, running the HTML Application (HTA file) will be blocked. If you disable or do not configure this policy setting, running the HTML Application (HTA file) is allowed.

    3. Determines whether Redirection Guard is enabled for the print spooler. You can enable this setting to configure the Redirection Guard policy being applied to spooler. If you disable or do not configure this policy setting, Redirection Guard will default to being 'enabled'. If you enable this setting you may select the following options: -- Enabled : Redirection Guard will prevent any file redirections from being followed -- Disabed : Redirection Guard will not be enabled and file redirections may be used within the spooler process -- Audit : Redirection Guard will log events as though it were enabled but will not actually prevent file redirections from being used within the spooler.

    4. This policy setting lets you control the redirection of web authentication (WebAuthn) requests from a Remote Desktop session to the local device. This redirection enables users to authenticate to resources inside the Remote Desktop session using their local authenticator (e.g., Windows Hello for Business, security key, or other). By default, Remote Desktop allows redirection of WebAuthn requests. If you enable this policy setting, users can't use their local authenticator inside the Remote Desktop session. If you disable or do not configure this policy setting, users can use local authenticators inside the Remote Desktop session.

    5. This policy setting controls whether or not exclusions are visible to Local Admins. For end users (that are not Local Admins) exclusions are not visible, whether or not this setting is enabled. Disabled(Default): If you disable or do not configure this setting, Local Admins will be able to see exclusions in the Windows Security App or via PowerShell. Enabled: If you enable this setting, Local Admins will no longer be able to see the exclusion list in Windows Security App or via PowerShell. Note: Applying this setting will not remove exclusions, it will only prevent them from being visible to Local Admins. This is reflected in Get-MpPreference.

    6. This policy setting determines whether users can get preview builds of Windows, by configuring controls in Settings > Update and security > Windows Insider Program. If you enable or do not configure this policy setting, users can download and install preview builds of Windows by configuring Windows Insider Program settings. If you disable this policy setting, Windows Insider Program settings will be unavailable to users through the Settings app. This policy is only supported up to Windows 10, Version 1703. Please use 'Manage preview builds' under 'Windows Update for Business' for newer Windows 10 versions.

  • What Marek said.  Your link regarding the "new release" is to Windows 11 22H2 not Windows 10 22H2.

    Hi pals,

Can anyone give me some advice about Download and install the Windows ADK?

My target device is Microsoft Windows 10 22H2.

But when I try to install: Windows ADK for Windows 10, version 2004, no matter I choose which options from installation step (as follows screenshot), the installation procedure will get stuck. The best progress is 20%, the worst progress is 6%.

Another installer: Windows PE add-on for the ADK, version 2004 situation is worst than others. When I tried to download it, it will throw HTTP ERROR 503.

If anyone can give us some advice on how to solve this problem, we'd be thrilled.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Guys,

How can we get License for Windows 10 professional, version 22H2 or what is the required license for it.

Your kind contribution would be appreciated.
