Understand how to explore what's happening across your network, communities, posts and campaigns. And learn what's new in Engage Analytics.
What landed? Who joined the conversation? What should you do next? For corporate communicators, measurement is about more than knowing a message was sent. Engage analytics helps you explore reach, participation, and engagement so you can make better informed decisions. Here’s a refresher of what you can use today, plus a look at the enhancements we’re working on next.

Question |
Where Engage helps today |
|
How is my network doing? |
Network analytics gives admins and communicators a view into organization-wide activity, engagement trends, active communities, and contributor patterns. This requires C&C or Viva suite licensing. |
|
Who is generating the most reach? |
The top conversations and frequent contributor tables help you better understand which posts and employees are driving the most engagement across your network, communities, events and campaigns. Frequent contributors requires C&C or Viva suite licensing. |
|
Which communities are thriving? |
Community analytics help community admins understand activity, engagement, membership, and conversation patterns within a community. |
|
Did this post land? |
Conversation analytics help communicators understand reach and engagement for specific posts and announcements. |
|
How did a campaign perform? |
Campaign analytics help teams understand performance across campaign content, not just one post at a time. This requires C&C or Viva suite licensing. |
Connect each insight into a decision: where to invest, which leaders could use communications support, which communities need attention, and which messages warrant a follow-up. Reach and activity are useful signals, but they don't always tell the whole story. Use them to guide your investigation, then complement them with insights such as AI themes and sentiment to better understand whether your content creates clarity and connection.
Learn from Microsoft’s measurement approach
Check out this First Fridays: AI for Communicators session recording Signal to Strategy, AI‑Powered Measurement for Modern Communicators to learn how AI and Copilot are changing measurement at Microsoft.
A key takeaway from the session: synthesize signals across sources, look for themes over time, and connect insight to action. Weekly reports become more useful when you ask what keeps appearing, where signals agree or diverge, and what has changed. Let those patterns shape your next message, campaign, or leader action.
Coming soon
There’s more to look forward to. Customer feedback is shaping the next wave of Engage analytics, from richer conversation signals to more flexible network reporting. The work below highlights upcoming feature releases coming your way later this year. Network analytics requires C&C or suite licensing, but conversation analytics enhancements will be available with Microsoft 365 licensing.
Richer conversation and video signals
We’re working on bringing click-through rate, dwell time, and open rate into conversation analytics. Together, these signals can help communicators look beyond whether a post appeared in someone’s feed and better understand whether people opened the full conversation, spent time with its content, or clicked through to a linked resource.
For example, strong reach but few clicks on an attachment could prompt you to revisit its wording or placement. Higher dwell time may indicate that people are spending more time with the content, particularly for detailed posts. The goal is to give you better questions to investigate and clearer direction for your next post.
We’re also exploring ways to bring more video metrics directly into conversation analytics for posts with video. Since video is central to modern employee communications, we want to ensure that we make it easier to understand the impact of video attachments on Engage.
A fuller view across shared conversations
Corporate communication rarely happens through a single post. An announcement may be shared across communities, amplified by leaders, or reinforced through follow-up conversations.
We’re adding shared conversation analytics and making it easier to understand performance across multiple conversations in one aggregate view.
This broader view can help communicators assess the collective reach and engagement of a communication effort, identify which conversations are contributing most strongly, and make more informed decisions about where to follow up or adjust their approach.
Network reporting that fits your needs
Your reporting calendar doesn’t always fit in a preset window. So, we’re building custom date ranges for the periods that matter to you, whether that’s a three-week campaign or a few days around a leadership moment. We’re also incorporating near-real-time activity refreshes to help you spot changes across your network sooner. And we’re updating dashboard metrics and tables to make activity, people engagement, trending content, and campaigns easier to explore.
We’re designing expanded organizational filters to help you explore participation by department, country or region, role, job title, and organizational level, where that data is configured. And a new people-manager filter will let you focus on a manager and their direct reports, or their full reporting hierarchy. That context can help you see where communication is connecting and where another approach may be needed.

Visibility into community agent effectiveness
We’re also working on community agent analytics to help admins understand how agents help people find answers, put shared knowledge to work, and learn from their community’s collective expertise. This data gives community admins another lens to better understand the support agents provide within communities they manage.
Microsoft Copilot-licensed community admins will have access to these insights.
Looking further ahead
Beyond these areas, we’re exploring easier community comparisons, more data export support, and agentic analytics capabilities. We’re testing out new ways to let corporate communicators ask questions about Engage data in everyday language to generate custom analysis and recurring reports. Our ambition is to provide you with a clearer view of communication across Engage that requires less time spent moving between reports and manually consolidating your data.
Early design concepts may change.
