Create Beautiful Pages and News Posts with Templates in SharePoint

We’re excited to announce that the new SharePoint Template Gallery is now generally available for commercial customers worldwide!

Whether you’re a communicator, program lead, or project team member, templates make it faster and easier to create stunning, professional pages and news posts - so you can focus less on design and more on delivering your message with style.

With this release, we’ve introduced:

  • A centralized Template Gallery - your one place to browse all available templates, including Saved on this site, Full-page apps (if available), and From Microsoft. This makes discovering and applying templates simpler and more efficient than ever.
  • A rich collection of modern, out-of-the-box (OOB) templates under ‘From Microsoft’, designed to help you create polished pages and news posts with ease.

Browse and select a template in the new Templates Gallery

Scenario 1: Create a Page with an OOB Template

Imagine you’re an HR professional creating a new page about employee benefits. Instead of starting from scratch:

  1. Navigate to your HR site home, and select New > Page.
  2. The Template Gallery opens, showing a curated collection of OOB templates under ‘From Microsoft’.
  3. Select the Visual topic introduction template, designed with sections for program overviews, links, and contact points.
  4. Update the text and media to match your content, then publish.

In minutes, you’ve built a clear and engaging HR page.

Scenario 2: Create a News Post with an OOB Template

Now let’s say you’re a product manager sharing updates with stakeholders:

  1. From your project site home, select New > News post.
  2. The Template Gallery opens with curated OOB News post templates.
  3. Choose the Product news template, which includes sections for highlights, next steps, and team details.
  4. Replace placeholder text and images with your own content.

Once ready, your news post can be shared by email with clean visuals and polished formatting - no design worries needed.

Where to Find Page Templates

You can now access templates from multiple entry points in SharePoint:

  • Site Home – The home of a Communication or Teams site.
  • App Bar – The persistent navigation pane on the left of SharePoint.
  • News Web Part – A webpart that displays and creates news posts directly on pages.

It is definitely a nice feature. But I think having a centralised administration of templates is (more) needed though. Both for improved governance and the availability of specific, approved templates across the tenant.  it's a bit strange you still haven't addressed this

  • Any plans to offer the ability to use templates across multiple SharePoint sites in a tenant?
