Ahmad Osama is a Reconnect Member from India, who received MVP Awards in 2015 and 2016 in Data Platforms. He currently works as a Senior Advisory Database Engineer at Pitney Bowes.
To Ahmad, being a Reconnect member means the opportunity to stay connected with ex-MVPs, MVPs, and Microsoft. “As well as its perks, the program allows me to be part of technical discussions, MVP meets, and other community activities,” said Ahmad. “To me, Reconnect MVPs are like MVPs’ extended family.”
Ahmad makes the most of his Reconnect membership by regularly attending technical webinars that are organized and conducted by Reconnect members.
In his position at Pitney Bowes, Ahmad has been working on migrating an on-premise SQL Server deployment to the cloud. The most interesting aspect of this project is the complex Active-Active on-premise deployment, and what makes it challenging is the zero-downtime migration. As well as his day job, Ahmad has authored two books with PacktPub on Professional Azure SQL Database Administration and Professional SQL Server High Availability and Disaster Recovery.
In terms of other projects and organizations, Ahmad started dataplatformlabs.com, where he blogs and conducts free webinars and in-person events. In the last two years, they have held four in-person events, ten webinars, and posted more than 50 blogs. "The community has so much to offer, so it’s equally as important to give back. Dataplatformlabs is a medium to share my knowledge," explains Ahmad.
While an MVP, Ahmad’s favorite project was organizing and speaking at Asia’s first SQL Server conference, SQLServerGeeks Annual Summit 2015 and 2016. His advice to new MVPs is “Make sure you get the most out of the program - and network and mentor others to become MVPs.”
In the future, Ahmad hopes to continue sharing his knowledge through different mediums and help the community in any ways he can.
