We’re excited to announce the upcoming refresh to the OneNote app on Android Mobile to help you quickly capture what’s important to you and remember with confidence.

The new Home tab on your OneNote Mobile app allows you to:

  • Capture naturally with text, voice, ink, and camera
  • Remember with ease with rich note preview cards

The Home page displays your recent notes from all your signed-in accounts in a single unified view. You can tap on a note card to view or edit the note or long press on it to take a quick action.

You can switch between Grid view to see more notes at the same time) and List view (to see more detail on each note card) to select your preferred view.

NOTE: Learn how to connect your Samsung Notes to OneNote here.

You can arrange the notes on the Home tab to suit your personal preference. Sort your notes by Updated Date, Created Date or Alphabetically, and use the filter options to filter notes by note type, Notebook Page, Sticky Note, Samsung Note, or by signed in account.

You can now use intuitive gestures within the OneNote mobile app to do more. Swipe down to sync your notes and long press the note cards to take quick actions, such as deleting, moving, copying, sharing, or adding notes to your mobile device's home screen.

The new quick capture bar at the bottom of the page allows you to easily take notes within the mobile app in your preferred modality with a single click.

A few features on the quick capture bar include:

  • The upgraded Microsoft Lens integration to allow you to choose from a range of new filters and image editing tools.
    • You can scan a document and extract text directly onto your note.
  • Voice dictation allows you to dictate your notes in a number of languages (9 official, 18 preview). Learn more here.
    • You can also use voice commands to format your notes.

As a new mobile user, you can now seamlessly sign into your OneNote mobile app with a new, simplified single sign-on (SSO) experience. We've also introduced a brand-new onboarding experience to help you navigate your way through the app.

Availability

These features are currently being rolled out in stages on Android mobile build 16.0.15128.20270 and later (not available on tablets or dual-screen phones). We are working on bringing these features to the OneNote app across our platforms soon.

This Android change just takes the mobile version further away from the desktop version,  which itself,  is a mess with 2 versions each offering different UI's and functionality. I though the aim was to unify OneNote in to just one version. Typical Microsoft,  one unit completely out of sync with the rest!

This new version looks more like  Google keep.  The OneNote Team has missed the #1 of feature: TASKS, ability to search tags on the mobile app.

You can make to do list or flag notes while on your laptop but you cannot search this on the app.

Finally, a long overdue refresh! This looks really good and I'm looking forward to getting my hands on it.

It reminds me of the time when Windows Mobile was around, and OneNote and Microsoft Office mobile has been shining in this platform. It is sad to see Windows Mobile is no longer around.

Will this release bring any updates to the sync engine performance? Do you have anything to share relating to sync performance as part of your roadmap?

I feel like the main thing holding back OneNote for Android is the unreliable sync engine, not the UX.

Regular page/sync conflicts still occur despite sync having been completed on another device before opening OneNote for Android.

This makes it very difficult to rely on OneNote as a dependable note-taking tool on mobile.

The current OneNote team has a long ways to go to earn back the trust of long-term OneNote users.  They failed horribly with the whole Windows 10 revision to OneNote, and screwed over any serious user who worked among multiple teams and wanted/needed to keep offline stores, shares, archives of projects by simply eliminating that functionality.  This is just more lipstick on a pig. Thank God I've moved essential projects over to Evernote, which understands and is committed to cross-platform functionality both by company platforms and mobile/desktop usage.  Given how teams are always in flux, and the way promotions happen at MSFT, I have little to no faith in this application because the TEAM doesn't actually understand it.

This looks amazing and could really be a game changer! When will it be available on Android tablets (Samsung Tab S7)? Do you have any plans to add these features to the iPad and iPhone versions?
