Ambience Healthcare’s Ambient AI for Health Systems, a solution platform published to the Microsoft Marketplace, accurately transcribes patient and clinician conversations and summarizes encounters into a comprehensive clinical note. Drawing from thousands of different medical and billing codes across different specialties, Ambience selects accurate and appropriate codes for clinicians to review at point of care. The platform improves coding accuracy, increases document compliance, and generalizes personalized patient summaries and referrals for collaborative care.
Microsoft Marketplace interviewed Brad Hoyt, MD, Chief Medical Information Officer at Ardent Health in Tennessee, to learn what he had to say about the product.
What do you like best about Ambience Healthcare Ambient AI for Health Systems?
Ambience integrates seamlessly into the clinical workflow, supporting clinicians before, during, and after each visit. It consistently delivers accurate, specialty-specific, and compliant documentation that feels like part of our core infrastructure—not just another tool.
Unlike basic ambient transcription solutions, Ambience redefines the category as a comprehensive AI Operating System. It acts as an active partner, providing real-time intelligence and coding-aware documentation from the start. In practice, it feels like an invisible, highly competent member of both the care and revenue cycle teams.
How has the product helped your organization?
The impact has been measurable across four critical dimensions: burnout, revenue, compliance, and quality.
We achieved a 43 percent reduction in after-hours charting ("pajama time") and saved clinicians an average of five hours per week, leading to a 100 percent improvement in reported job satisfaction.
Crucially, Ambience delivered a verified three times return on investment (ROI). This wasn't just soft savings; we saw a 20 percent increase in hierarchical condition capture (HCC) per visit (raising our average score from 0.55 to 0.66) and an increase in coding complexity (3.69 to 3.77). This ensures we are finally being reimbursed for the true acuity of care our clinicians are already delivering. All this while being blessed by our compliance department.
We are on pace to document one million encounters annually across 23 distinct specialties, proving the platform's ability to scale beyond primary care. There has been measurable improvement in all eight Press Ganey categories.
How are customer service and support?
The Ambience team has been an outstanding strategic partner. Their “white glove” deployment enabled rapid rollout across multiple states and specialties, with adoption far exceeding expectations. Unlike legacy vendors, Ambience embedded with our clinical leadership to tailor workflows before go-live, driving nearly 90 percent utilization in a market where others average around 40 percent. Ongoing support ensures sustained success at scale—this is not a product we bought; it’s a solution we actively use.
Any recommendations to other users considering this product?
Treat Ambience as more than a scribing tool. It’s a platform for care transformation and revenue integrity. To unlock full value, engage Clinical Informatics and Revenue Cycle teams early and plan for enterprise-wide integration. Leveraging features like AutoCDI and specialty workflows moves the impact beyond time savings to a sustainable, highly profitable operating model that clinicians appreciate and consistently use.
