That's OK. Well, we're full transparency. So today we've got a great lineup. A great set of topics we're going to talk about. We're going to be discussing today, but Microsoft Business Application Summit, or.
00:01:02.860 --> 00:01:12.630
Michael Gannotti
And Buzz, we'll talk about why I came to Microsoft and the single platform. And finally next generation intranet's with.
00:01:13.250 --> 00:01:23.440
Michael Gannotti
Viva Connections very excited. Our panelists for today's podcast are as follows, and they're going to introduce themselves, so we'll start Kendra.
00:01:24.470 --> 00:01:29.000
Kendra Burgess
Hi, I'm Kendra Burgess. I'm a technical specialist for Power BI at Microsoft.
00:01:30.080 --> 00:01:31.090
Michael Gannotti
And Sue.
00:01:31.430 --> 00:01:41.990
Sue Vencill
Hello everybody, thanks for joining us. I'm Sue wenzel. I am a Microsoft Teams technical specialists an I just joined the team from after 17 years with Cisco.
00:01:42.890 --> 00:01:45.660
Sue Vencill
This is my first mid day cafe so I'm really excited.
00:01:45.990 --> 00:02:12.930
Michael Gannotti
How great is that right? And I am your host, Michael Gannotti. I am a principle technology specialist on everything. I think at this point. So as we get in I'm I'm very excited. We have a lot to cover, so let's go ahead and get started. But real quickly before we do quick reminder. Midday Cafe is recorded weekly. It is a podcast using the Microsoft Teams webinar.
00:01:47.910 --> 00:01:48.410
Sue Vencill
Yeah.
00:02:12.980 --> 00:02:21.010
Michael Gannotti
Experience that was just released today, so if you have E3 and above you could be doing this yourselves.
00:02:21.830 --> 00:02:44.630
Michael Gannotti
Attendees when we do live sessions today is just an on demand piece, but attendees are placed in a mute for audio and video segments. So if you join in of our live sessions, you will be muted. However, chat will be available to you on the left hand side and you could certainly ask questions, and when it appropriate, will unmute. Select individuals to participate.
00:02:45.530 --> 00:02:57.850
Michael Gannotti
But let's go ahead and jump right in. So for our first topic today talking about Embas, we have Kendra Burgess and Kendra.
00:02:54.040 --> 00:02:55.240
Kendra Burgess
And thus.
00:02:58.010 --> 00:02:58.570
Kendra Burgess
Hi.
00:02:58.720 --> 00:02:59.870
Michael Gannotti
What do you got for us?
00:03:00.340 --> 00:03:30.690
Kendra Burgess
Wow, I I was super excited to see that and embas they had four different 30 minute programs all about Power BI. I was really tickled to see the vision and roadmap part one and Part 2. So really an hour but there were 30 minutes each so those were really special and then I really liked hearing about the power BI goals or visual. It's a scorecard. Easy to use, easy to build.
00:03:30.890 --> 00:04:00.420
Kendra Burgess
So you know there were some. You know good areas of information and as I was talking to the team about earlier, I'm going to post those videos in the HLS blog so everyone else can have access to them. I also found a really nice writeup by the Microsoft program management team. It's on the Power bi.com blog site and it's kind of a quick list of things that were covered during the embas videos so.
00:04:00.670 --> 00:04:01.590
Michael Gannotti
Oh cool.
00:04:00.920 --> 00:04:03.050
Kendra Burgess
I'll make sure that's posted out there as well.
00:04:03.560 --> 00:04:07.930
Michael Gannotti
Kind of a synopsis. Pulling it all together, then nice so.
00:04:05.280 --> 00:04:07.730
Kendra Burgess
Yeah yeah yeah yeah.
00:04:08.840 --> 00:04:13.160
Michael Gannotti
So Kendra, so if you think about all those things that went on.
00:04:09.830 --> 00:04:10.190
Kendra Burgess
Yeah.
00:04:13.500 --> 00:04:13.900
Kendra Burgess
Uh huh.
00:04:13.770 --> 00:04:29.110
Michael Gannotti
Right, four I like that it's I can do it on one hand so I can count up to that. But if you think about those, if you want to call out one in particular that really hit home, and that you think our customers would want.
00:04:19.020 --> 00:04:20.320
Kendra Burgess
Yeah, yeah.
00:04:22.420 --> 00:04:22.670
Kendra Burgess
Yes.
00:04:29.720 --> 00:04:30.250
Michael Gannotti
Uh.
00:04:30.970 --> 00:04:33.170
Michael Gannotti
To discuss right now, what would that be?
00:04:33.940 --> 00:05:03.310
Kendra Burgess
For me it's premium Gen 2 and there's been a lot of news about that since February. We've been in private preview on a few of the capabilities that we've been rolling into premium Gen 2, but it's really all about adding new hardware and improving performance for customers that use premium and premium has these capabilities. These technical capabilities around machine learning and AI.
00:04:37.550 --> 00:04:37.850
Michael Gannotti
OK.
00:05:04.180 --> 00:05:34.190
Kendra Burgess
Obviously performance but large scale deployments capabilities that are enterprise focused like deployment pipelines, things like that, but for me what I'm really excited about in Gen 2 is auto scaling, which customers have been asking for, which is the ability to add a node or two or three. However many you want so that in a day if you need more CPU, you're just adding that extra node. Bam, as you need it in your build.
00:05:07.910 --> 00:05:08.350
Michael Gannotti
You
00:05:25.930 --> 00:05:26.320
Michael Gannotti
oh
00:05:34.240 --> 00:06:04.400
Kendra Burgess
Port for a day. You get to use that and then know that you're going to have the right performance for your work and there isn't going to be a job that stops running or a negative impact to customers or your end users. So auto scaling was pretty hot. If I think of another one, I really I haven't seen the reports for this yet, but all of the new reporting that are going to that are going to come with premium Gen 2 sounds really exciting. I also like the fact that Microsoft is taking.
00:06:04.450 --> 00:06:22.190
Kendra Burgess
A lot of the premium management out of the hands of the end users, it's just it's too much work, too much maintenance and you know, let Microsoft manage it. You guys just go enjoy the environment and get the reports out to your end users. So those are kind of things that I think I like the very most.
00:06:10.710 --> 00:06:11.070
Michael Gannotti
yeah.
00:06:22.930 --> 00:06:23.540
Michael Gannotti
Excellent.
00:06:24.110 --> 00:06:24.540
Kendra Burgess
Yeah.
00:06:24.970 --> 00:06:29.560
Michael Gannotti
Oh, that's great Sue. Any comments or questions?
00:06:27.420 --> 00:06:28.230
Kendra Burgess
And teams.
00:06:30.680 --> 00:06:49.000
Sue Vencill
Oh, we don't have time for my questions, but she's very, very exciting stuff. I one of the things that of course I'm I'm just really focused on Microsoft Teams and grabbing all of that. But I do love all the integrations. That's probably one of my most exciting areas that I really like to talk about.
00:06:41.970 --> 00:06:42.380
Michael Gannotti
Yeah.
00:06:49.710 --> 00:07:07.460
Michael Gannotti
Yeah, you know when you think about the pervasiveness of power BI, I think it's just. I mean you not only have it now. Obviously, standalone right as a service in 365, but then you have in teams the ability to pull Power BI reports.
00:07:08.030 --> 00:07:13.640
Michael Gannotti
But one of the things I actually showed Kendra you would be proud of me. I showed a customer today.
00:07:13.900 --> 00:07:14.350
Kendra Burgess
Uh huh.
00:07:14.450 --> 00:07:24.080
Michael Gannotti
We were talking Viva topics an I showed them a Viva topics page and I pulled it up in the editing mode and they saw in their way man.
00:07:20.500 --> 00:07:20.730
Kendra Burgess
Yeah.
00:07:24.830 --> 00:07:38.440
Michael Gannotti
You can drop a power BI. So Oh yeah you can. And I went bloop bloop and I connected it to to one with some generic info but I was like yeah, I mean it's pretty much anywhere. The 365 services are present.
00:07:32.700 --> 00:07:33.080
Kendra Burgess
Yeah.
00:07:38.720 --> 00:07:39.280
Kendra Burgess
That's right.
00:07:40.310 --> 00:08:10.310
Kendra Burgess
Yeah, because analytics is everywhere and I don't want this to be about and analytics topic today. It's not that's not the podcast but analytics. It is everywhere. We've integrated power BI and analytics into Excel. There's a I in PowerPoint that we've got the teams integration, which were all enjoying. It's in dynamics. It's an Ms project. I could go on and on if I had the time. The one we're really excited about today. I think though to call out is teams.
00:07:42.420 --> 00:07:42.780
Michael Gannotti
Yeah.
00:07:50.860 --> 00:07:51.250
Michael Gannotti
Yeah.
00:07:59.370 --> 00:07:59.680
Michael Gannotti
Yeah.
00:08:10.400 --> 00:08:11.170
Kendra Burgess
Because.
00:08:12.800 --> 00:08:14.770
Kendra Burgess
Did your mug just say, did it say teams?
00:08:13.660 --> 00:08:15.490
Michael Gannotti
It's in my coffee.
00:08:15.520 --> 00:08:45.350
Kendra Burgess
Oh God yeah. Well how many cups of coffee do you drink in a day? What is the price per pound for that coffee? I don't know. Let's look at the ROI. But teams I think is fabulous because it previously it was Power BI report added to a tab to a channel in teams. And while that helps with collaboration and it really does it, what it's now doing with the actual power BI integration into teams.
00:08:21.900 --> 00:08:22.530
Michael Gannotti
There we go.
00:08:32.580 --> 00:08:32.900
Michael Gannotti
Yeah.
00:08:45.500 --> 00:08:54.570
Kendra Burgess
Is making teams more of the collaboration hub so anything you want for analytics can be done now in teams, so I like.
00:08:48.950 --> 00:08:49.540
Michael Gannotti
Yes.
00:08:52.540 --> 00:08:52.930
Michael Gannotti
Yeah.
00:08:54.130 --> 00:08:55.360
Michael Gannotti
No, absolutely.
00:08:55.250 --> 00:08:56.400
Kendra Burgess
Right, mind-blowing.
00:08:56.000 --> 00:08:59.430
Sue Vencill
I love it and I I love like for example the.
00:09:00.290 --> 00:09:24.490
Sue Vencill
The I mean analytics are really useless unless you turn them into something useful, right? And that's the beauty of you know. I mean, it has had a profound effect on my work life balance. For example, showing me how I'm spending my time helping me to reserve time. You know, this is insights helping me to reserve time for focus. It's almost.
00:09:08.070 --> 00:09:08.840
Kendra Burgess
Yeah, yeah.
00:09:21.250 --> 00:09:21.690
Kendra Burgess
Right?
00:09:25.050 --> 00:09:29.320
Sue Vencill
It's thinking ahead for me, you know, brilliant.
00:09:27.790 --> 00:09:28.170
Kendra Burgess
Uh huh.
00:09:28.820 --> 00:10:02.440
Kendra Burgess
Yeah, I I also like I don't know if the audience here would know what our smarter health environment is, but the fact that you can look at a teams channel one or two or three and because we work in healthcare and life Sciences, everything from hospital operations from a business unit perspective can be broken down into different teams, channels and analytics can be integrated into every one of those channels. So you could have something specific for your nurses or your floor or.
00:09:49.930 --> 00:09:50.450
Michael Gannotti
B.
00:09:57.780 --> 00:09:58.090
Michael Gannotti
Yeah.
00:10:02.980 --> 00:10:29.730
Kendra Burgess
You know patient information. Whatever in that teams environment and you know, take a look at whatever the analytics are that are related specifically to that activity all within teams. So everybody is looking at the same place. You know it's not like you're going to miss, and I am or miss a phone call or miss a calendar event because you're looking just like we are right now at the teams screen. It's right here. Yeah, it's pretty exciting.
00:10:05.810 --> 00:10:06.220
Michael Gannotti
Yeah.
00:10:27.180 --> 00:10:27.610
Michael Gannotti
Yeah.
00:10:27.330 --> 00:10:27.710
Sue Vencill
Right?
00:10:29.170 --> 00:10:34.700
Sue Vencill
Right, it makes it you know where to go to find it. You know you go to the one place you know.
00:10:32.670 --> 00:10:33.000
Kendra Burgess
Yeah.
00:10:35.020 --> 00:10:35.710
Kendra Burgess
One place.
00:10:36.830 --> 00:10:39.600
Michael Gannotti
Unplaced love it.
00:10:37.080 --> 00:10:37.450
Kendra Burgess
Yep.
00:10:39.050 --> 00:10:40.170
Kendra Burgess
Like 1 cloud.
00:10:40.490 --> 00:10:42.050
Michael Gannotti
One cloud that's right.
00:10:42.070 --> 00:10:42.700
Kendra Burgess
That's right.
00:10:43.830 --> 00:10:50.880
Michael Gannotti
Awesome so. So again, you're going to be providing a post. You said it's going to have all that.
00:10:49.100 --> 00:10:49.710
Kendra Burgess
I am.
00:10:51.290 --> 00:11:06.080
Kendra Burgess
Yeah, working on it today. As a matter of fact, on healthcare and Life Sciences blog, HLS blog. You'll find the four recordings and the write up from the program managers about it too. I'll probably add a few bits and pieces there too.
00:10:57.630 --> 00:10:57.950
Michael Gannotti
Yeah.
00:11:03.490 --> 00:11:04.230
Michael Gannotti
All perfect.
00:11:06.530 --> 00:11:08.510
Michael Gannotti
Perfect very cool.
00:11:07.390 --> 00:11:07.820
Kendra Burgess
Yeah.
00:11:08.830 --> 00:11:09.190
Kendra Burgess
Yeah.
00:11:09.140 --> 00:11:16.570
Michael Gannotti
Well moving on then so on to our next topic, our our, our baby. She's here.
00:11:11.330 --> 00:11:12.800
Sue Vencill
Or or adding one.
00:11:18.100 --> 00:11:20.800
Michael Gannotti
She's a youngster. So art.
00:11:19.970 --> 00:11:21.620
Sue Vencill
I'm 8 weeks old.
00:11:21.130 --> 00:11:22.560
Kendra Burgess
Newbie, she's a newbie.
00:11:22.170 --> 00:11:23.960
Michael Gannotti
That's right, eight weeks old.
00:11:24.360 --> 00:11:24.860
Sue Vencill
Yeah.
00:11:25.640 --> 00:11:40.620
Michael Gannotti
So Sue, talk to us about what it what attracted you coming to Microsoft. And what about 'cause we were talking a little bit about this. This idea of 1 platform and what that means to you coming here.
00:11:38.650 --> 00:11:39.210
Sue Vencill
Yeah.
00:11:40.090 --> 00:12:10.910
Sue Vencill
Yes, yes, so an it's it's twofold for me, and these are all my personal thoughts and I love how, by the way, the topic of single platform, which is something I'm really passionate about. I love how it's been a part of this entire conversation today, so for me it's twofold. An that is business value. An workflow or workflow. You know the tight integration that is available within.
00:12:10.960 --> 00:12:41.170
Sue Vencill
Microsoft, you have this single, you have the single platform. Microsoft Teams. Most people already have the licensing that they already need. I have been I'm going to use the word shocked. I have been shocked with the number of customer calls I've been on where they're not. They're really not even touching everything. They have access to an I mean like as in a bit as it as an evangelist. That is something that I think that we all need to have a handle on like you already have this.
00:12:32.390 --> 00:12:32.690
Michael Gannotti
Yeah.
00:12:32.720 --> 00:12:33.350
Kendra Burgess
Yeah.
00:12:40.040 --> 00:12:40.440
Michael Gannotti
Yeah.
00:12:41.460 --> 00:12:53.010
Sue Vencill
Use this, you know there. That's where the business value is to me. You know, we talk about all these things we can add, but for most of times it's not going to be an additional cost for the customer. That's huge.
00:12:53.560 --> 00:13:13.260
Sue Vencill
So the business values the first thing and the second thing is and we already talked about some of it. The tight integrations there are other competitors out there that also have integrations, but this is in the workflow. It is tightly integrated. Go ahead, we can say Mike.
00:13:13.490 --> 00:13:14.790
Michael Gannotti
No, no, I just said right.
00:13:15.130 --> 00:13:47.160
Sue Vencill
Yeah, anan. I love it. I I literally do everything in teams. I use teams for my calendar. I use teams for when I want to you know when I go to our topics page and how I love how it brings information to me. I don't have to go looking in fact, it knows the next hot topic that I need to jump on before I even know it. At 8 weeks old, you know what I mean, so it is been a phenomenal onboarding experience because of that.
00:13:22.160 --> 00:13:22.510
Michael Gannotti
Yeah.
00:13:35.850 --> 00:13:36.120
Kendra Burgess
Yeah.
00:13:47.410 --> 00:14:21.320
Sue Vencill
And also the insights. I love it. I actually got permission. I don't know if we have time, but I got permission to show it because for for my insights, it's a it's a tab in my Microsoft Teams and one of the tabs is about staying connected an it picks up on what I call open ended conversations that haven't been closed yet. So when I go to that I have like hey, you want to meet on Friday an I go. Hey you told this person you're going to be on Friday. Do you want to set up the meeting for that?
00:14:21.560 --> 00:14:33.790
Sue Vencill
You know, it's like my my incomplete conversations and it's all in one spot and then the other tab that I really like a lot is the protect time. You know I am.
00:14:25.460 --> 00:14:26.110
Michael Gannotti
Gotcha.
00:14:32.970 --> 00:14:33.330
Michael Gannotti
Yeah.
00:14:33.370 --> 00:14:34.030
Kendra Burgess
Oh yeah.
00:14:34.350 --> 00:14:41.950
Sue Vencill
I'm awful. I mean, you guys probably do the back to back meetings right all the time and when do you do your followups at night?
00:14:38.320 --> 00:14:38.800
Kendra Burgess
Yeah.
00:14:41.410 --> 00:14:41.870
Kendra Burgess
Right?
00:14:43.180 --> 00:14:46.630
Sue Vencill
You know, so when I talk about the work life balance.
00:14:46.600 --> 00:14:47.090
Kendra Burgess
Uh huh.
00:14:47.810 --> 00:14:55.840
Sue Vencill
You know, hey Sue, on this day you got an hour to reserve. You want to go ahead and reserve that to for focus time one button? Why yes I do.
00:14:57.020 --> 00:15:09.660
Sue Vencill
And it's done so and I'm just so excited about it. I was on a fantastic customer. Call today an you know you're in a good spot when you hear customer go wow.
00:14:58.600 --> 00:14:59.100
Michael Gannotti
Yeah.
00:14:58.900 --> 00:14:59.070
Kendra Burgess
Yeah.
00:15:10.420 --> 00:15:21.730
Sue Vencill
Wow, you know? And it's just, it's just great to be here. I love it. You were coming out with all the features that people are looking for and they need and most of them already have the licensing.
00:15:22.360 --> 00:15:53.600
Kendra Burgess
Yeah, that that's really important to bring up to. I find it even in the power BI space where I'm looking around it. Some of my customers stats and I go wow, you've got you know 4001 thousand power BI Pro licenses. Why do I only see you know a few of these used over here and then you hear, oh, they've got this other tool that they're paying thousands of dollars for and you're like you've got it right over here and it's basically free. It came with your whole package. Use it.
00:15:53.690 --> 00:16:04.140
Kendra Burgess
Get the return on your investment and if you don't know about it, I'm happy to help you. You know answer questions about it and help you use it, but use what you're paying for.
00:15:56.450 --> 00:15:56.910
Michael Gannotti
Yeah.
00:15:59.140 --> 00:15:59.610
Sue Vencill
Yeah.
00:16:04.940 --> 00:16:08.070
Kendra Burgess
We want you to write, yeah.
00:16:06.780 --> 00:16:08.610
Sue Vencill
Exactly exactly.
00:16:07.870 --> 00:16:08.440
Michael Gannotti
Yeah.
00:16:09.330 --> 00:16:29.400
Michael Gannotti
I mean, that's I I that kind of leads into the last topic for today, which I was going to talk about. Viva connections and I can't. So Viva connections for the audience that's listening. If you have not seen it, you repeat need to take a look because almost every customer.
00:16:30.270 --> 00:16:38.680
Michael Gannotti
In fact, every customer I have talked to, they all own it. They have no idea an I will tell you in the last several weeks.
00:16:39.470 --> 00:17:11.050
Michael Gannotti
I can't count the number of accounts that I've talked to who were looking at look, we're having this whole return to work process. We need better corporate communications. We need to personalize and segment our communications and deliver it. We're looking at how we can deliver applications and again take target and tailor those for groups of people in the org and they're looking at all kinds of third party things and looking at pulling the trigger.
00:16:43.610 --> 00:16:43.690
Sue Vencill
Yeah.
00:17:11.190 --> 00:17:15.150
Michael Gannotti
And when I show em, they're like women. What that does it?
00:17:15.770 --> 00:17:22.370
Michael Gannotti
Wait, wait, that does it better than when I was looking at an what do you mean I own it? It's like turning on.
00:17:22.730 --> 00:17:41.940
Sue Vencill
Right and then from a culture experience like a lot of our customers are are really concerned about the culture they're looking to rebuild the culture, right? And they're preparing for a hybrid work situation 'cause not everyone is going to return. So how do we create that culture to bring everyone together?
00:17:22.770 --> 00:17:24.410
Kendra Burgess
Right, right?
00:17:23.880 --> 00:17:24.450
Michael Gannotti
Anne.
00:17:36.720 --> 00:17:37.180
Kendra Burgess
Yeah.
00:17:38.110 --> 00:17:38.620
Michael Gannotti
Yeah.
00:17:42.440 --> 00:17:42.910
Kendra Burgess
Uh huh.
00:17:42.520 --> 00:17:55.910
Michael Gannotti
And it's huge an I guess what I would just say is to you know our listening audience today that if you have not engaged your account team around seeing the Viva story, you need to and.
00:17:55.180 --> 00:17:55.610
Kendra Burgess
Yeah.
00:17:56.540 --> 00:18:29.730
Michael Gannotti
Not only get that first flavor, but do some follow-ups on the modules like I had, you know, some questions today about Viva connections and somebody was concerned because they couldn't use a actually a deprecated feature. That's a carryover from SharePoint Classic that's under the hood and they wanted to leverage that in context for conversations rather than Yammer, which is our feature rich with all the interactivity that provides.
00:18:29.850 --> 00:18:39.030
Michael Gannotti
Seamless in the new, you know, modern framework lets you pull it in and do some really great stuff and they just they're not aware of it and it's like well.
00:18:39.630 --> 00:19:07.930
Michael Gannotti
Let's talk about. Here are all the things you can use. But then let's dive into how these this thing can really, you know light stuff up for you because you own it. You own this next generation intranet that's so far beyond and then the thing I love again 'cause I am also a teams. TS is that you know it puts it in the sink. All of the Viva modules get put into that single thing.
00:18:49.500 --> 00:18:49.860
Kendra Burgess
Right?
00:19:09.430 --> 00:19:16.870
Michael Gannotti
Been a long day single pane of glass to get work done. That is Microsoft Teams so when I fire up teams.
00:19:10.320 --> 00:19:11.070
