The Azure Application Gateway has been further enhanced to offer greater protection and monitoring with the Web Application Firewall (WAF). WAF is generally available and provides protection against many common attacks including SQL injection, Cross Site scripting, HTTP manipulation and others. WAF provides real-time monitoring, is integrated into Azure Monitor and allows for customized WAF rules and rule groups.
The Azure Application Gateway is an application delivery controller (ADC) as a service offering layer 7 load balancing capabilities. The Azure Load Balancer, Application Gateway and Traffic Manager provide support for distributing traffic in Azure but provide different features and support different scenarios .
Cheers!
