In a series on Microsoft Mechanics called "How we built it", the lead architect from the British online fashion retailer ASOS describes the design goals and motivation for moving from an on-premises monolith to a multi-datacentre Azure global solution. Instead of duplicating the same solution in the cloud, the solution was rebuilt using microservices to improve scalability, reduce the brittleness of the solution under change and improve the development team efficiency.
