Announcing New Storage Options for Azure Cloud Shell

Today, the Azure Cloud Shell team, with Danny Maertens (Program Manager Microsoft), is announcing the availability of additional regions for persistent Cloud Shell storage. Azure Cloud Shell is an interactive, authenticated, browser-accessible shell for managing Azure resources, either using Bash or PowerShell. To be able to choose additional Azure regions for your Cloud Shell storage is a highly requested feature by customers with data sovereignty laws or regulations around the world. The new options available lets you pick additional options when choosing your Azure regions for your Cloud Shell storage account.

Currently, the following Azure Regions are available for Cloud Shell:

  • North Europe
  • South Central US

If you are using Cloud Shell today, you can change your Cloud Shell storage by dismounting your Azure Cloud Drive in your Cloud Shell session. This will give you the option to reconnect and rerun the first setup experience, and you can choose your preferred Cloud Shell region.
